Frozen Synapse 2 is focused on tactical encounters of small squads of soldiers. In general, players need to take turns walking, but at the same time, the mechanics are significantly different from the standard ones. Here both sides plan their moves at the same time. A clear interface allows you to quickly plan all the actions that units will perform in the next few seconds. You can order them to move, take up certain positions, interact with each other, hide behind obstacles, or use grenades and rocket launchers. Having determined the actions, you need to press the space bar, and then the units of both sides in the conflict will obediently carry out orders from the commanders. Thus, the game works on a different principle than turn-by-turn, in which you just need to react to the opponent’s moves. Instead, they should be predictable. The fact that an enemy soldier occupies a room during the planning phase does not mean that after the action is resumed, he will remain in the same place.
