The Long Dark is a survival simulation set in the aftermath of a global geomagnetic disaster. As a wilderness pilot, you must endure the frozen Canadian wilderness, managing hunger, thirst, fatigue, and temperature while scavenging supplies, hunting wildlife, and avoiding hostile conditions. The game emphasizes thoughtful exploration, resource management, and quiet, atmospheric tension.
The Long Dark overview
The Long Dark is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness. There are no zombies — only you, the cold, and everything Mother Nature can throw at you.
There is no hand holding! The game challenges players to think for themselves by providing the information but never the answers. You have to earn the right to survive.
The first part of Story Mode’s Season One launches in Spring 2016, with the entirety of Season One being released episodically over the remainder of 2016. Players will take on the dual roles of bush pilot Will Mackenzie, and doctor Astrid Greenwood, as they both struggle to survive the aftermath of the “First Flare” event, which has brought modern civilization to its knees.
- Monitor your Calorie count, Hunger and Thirst, Fatigue, and Body Temperature.
- Over 30 square kms of wilderness to explore with dynamic weather, wildlife and time-of-day.
- Collect over 100 gear items and learn how to hunt, harvest, craft, build fires and live off of the land on a quest for survival.
